Quilting by the Bay is looking for new team members!


We are seeking a dedicated team member to join us in providing a first class customer experience. Your duties include greeting and assisting customers, providing product advice, accurately measuring and cutting fabrics, stocking, cashiering, merchandising, and cleaning. You must have the ability to work well with others or individually in various functions, and be able to stand eight hours a day, lift up to 20 pounds, have knowledge of sewing or quilting, and have basic math and computer skills.You must be available to work in-store, three to five days a week including two Saturdays per month. If you are the type of person that enjoys helping others, have a positive attitude, and can work well with customers and other team members please complete our Employment Application (click here to download) and email it to sandy@quiltingbythebay.com along with a cover letter explaining why you would be the perfect fit for us!

Pride and Joy is a six-month block of the month program featuring patchwork blocks with classic motifs loved by generations of quiltmakers. Our Pride and Joy Block of the Month program will feature the exact fabrics shown in the original quilt pictured for your quilt top and binding plus pattern. Fabrics are from the Helping Hands Collection designed by Kim Diehl for Henry Glass. Your Pride and Joy quilt will finish at 64.5" x 64.5". Starts in January!

This program includes your pattern and all the original batiks needed to make the quilt top, borders, and binding. For your convenience you can choose either our 6 month block of the month program or the complete yardage kit. This quilt is also offered in two sizes. The 76" x 76" size quilt is made using 8" blocks. The 96" x 96" size quilt is made using 10" blocks.  Starts in February!

Delightful Desert is one of Elizabeth Hartman's newest creations and it features her Terrarium Collection from Robert Kaufman. This fun sampler quilt features delightful desert critters including raccoons, deer, rabbits, butterflies and more. All blocks are sewn with simple straight and diagonal seams. No templates or paper piecing required! The pattern includes a fabric chart with easy-to-follow letter and number codes to ensure you can duplicate the fabric placement. Our kits and block of the month program include the pattern booklet plus all the original fabrics for the quilt top and binding. The finished size of your quilt will be 96" x 96".

Choose to make either of these two strip friendly quilts. These great patterns are made even easier with the Strip Tube Ruler. Choose your favorite colors in 2 1/2" pre-cut strips and background to create the perfect blocks for your quilt. Class is suitable for beginners and beyond. Pre-cutting is required before class.

In 1996 Karen started making art quilts, which were very well received in national and international shows. The awards encouraged her to move forward; her hobby officially became her business in 2002 when she opened her business “The Quilted Lizard.” For 8 years she taught at a local quilt store and in 2002 she began teaching her technique “Layered Curves” and “Accidental Landscapes™” nationwide. Karen says "teaching workshops gives me the opportunity to share my passion for playing with fabric with others, and I love it!!"  Karen is the author of several books including Wearable Waves, Happy Villages, Layered Waves, and Accidental Landscapes.

This Log Cabin really has an attitude! Relax and enjoy topstitched seams, curved edges, no measuring, blocks of different sizes, and raw-edge prairie points embellished with beads. You will create your choice of wallhanging/lap quilt or a bed quilt. Class is suitable for beginners and beyond.  Layered Waves book is highly recommended but not required for class.

Explore the freedom of fabric collage! No seams to piece or match, no lines to trace ... just free form cutting of step and window shapes. Step by step your little village will magically come to life. Finished size 16 1/2 inch square. Sewing machines are optional for this class. Here is an introduction to creating landscapes "accidentally" using Karen's layered topstitching technique. These little beach scenes are quick and easy to make, no templates, no fuss - just free form rotary cutting and topstitched edges. Personalize your beach by adding collage details like a dune fence, beach grass, shells, sailboats, beach chairs, umbrellas, lighthouses, photo transfers, etc. Beach scene measures approximately 8" x 12" (without borders). Class is suitable for beginners and beyond.

In this introduction to machine quilting you will learn to quilt both marked and free-hand designs. You will also learn about tools and tips for successful quilting. Bring a quilt top and we will discuss design ideas in class. You must be familiar with your sewing machine operation including how to adjust tension and change presser feet.
