June 17, 2010

The weather here has been soooo hot this month - it certainly feels like summer - hard to believe that summer doesn't even begin until next week. Luckily our beaches are still pristine and tourists are still enjoying their summer vacations in and around the Panama City area. Thanks to everyone who came to our birthday celebration last weekend! Our local quilters really took advantage of the savings.
Our UPS guy keeps bringing in lots of boxes every day so keep checking the website for new goodies. We are planning some fun events in July and August to introduce our great selection of Halloween and Christmas fabrics ... stay tuned for more details soon.
Be on the lookout for another email update this weekend with all the details of Judy Niemeyer's 2011 teaching schedule. You'll be able to register for all her classes starting Monday.

If you are the lucky holder of a Quilting by the Bay Summer Saving's Pass you have from now until August 6th to enjoy your savings so be sure to bring your Savings Pass with you whenever you shop. Remember you can also use your Summer Savings Pass online by putting your pass number in the comments section of your order and we will apply your discount before we charge your order.
Here are this week's featured items.

Rose of Sharon - Roses of Remembrance
in support of the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative
A bit of history on how this beautiful quilt came to be. Electric Quit hosted the Rose of Sharon block contest at the end of last year which netted 850 different blocks made by designers in 11 countries. The top 12 block designs were selected from over 850 entries. Sharon Pederson created the quilt pictured below. It’s called “Roses of Remembrance” because Sharon and her business partner Elizabeth made the project into an opportunity for the designers to share their connection with Alzheimer’s (if any) and for the partner companies to support the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative (AAQI) in the fight against Alzheimer’s. Sharon made the quilt reversible. On the back of the quilt you can really see Barbara Shapel’s quilting!
Sharon’s new “Rose of Sharon” book, due out this fall. Sharon’s “Rose of Sharon” instructional DVD from Nine Patch Media will also be available soon.
Our Block of the Month Program will feature beautiful Indonesian batiks from Island Batiks which have been specially selected by Sharon Pederson.
