Panama City is located in the panhandle of northwest Florida on beautiful St. Andrews Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.  It is a popular tourist location offering sun and white sandy beaches during the summer, escape from snow and ice during the winter, and outdoor sports activities year round.  Historic Panama City, St. Andrews Bay and the surrounding communities provide a relaxed southern charm that attracts a substantial population of “snowbirds” from December to March.  The area also hosts Air Force and Navy facilities which bolster the local light industry economy and contribute variety to Quilting by the Bay’s customer base. Panama City has long been famous for their white sand beaches which attract snowbirds in the winter, college spring breakers in February and March and from Memorial Day to Labor Day tourists flock to this vacation destination to enjoy beach activities and water sports.  Nearby Panama City Beach has many attractions that enhance the beach goers’ experience such as a Gulf World where you’ll see live animal shows, fascinating exhibits, and experience hands-on interaction with their animals, Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum, and a major water park.  Fishing, boating, and diving are also major tourist activities.  There are several world class golf courses in the area; Lagoon Legend which has a course rating of 75.3 and a slope rating of 152 from its championship tees sets it apart as the second most challenging course in the United States. St. Andrews State Recreation Area is one of the most popular outdoor recreation spots in Florida and was named by Travel Magazine as "The World's Best Beach," in 1995.  Captain Anderson’s Restaurant was voted #1 Seafood Restaurant by Southern Living readers every year from 1996 to 2006, and they were ranked among America's Top Fifty restaurants by Restaurants & Institutions.

Panama City celebrates their 100th birthday in 2009.
